Nationals and Nauvoo

First up, our cross country roadtrip to Iowa and Illinois.  Chris qualified for the NCAA Championships again  and this time they were in Des Moines, Iowa.  I convinced mom, dad, and Christian to join me on this trek across the Plains.

We left Monday, June 6th and spent the night in Laramie, WY.  And no, I didn't see anything exciting enough to take a picture of in Laramie.

Tuesday, June 7th we drove to Winter Quarters and enjoyed the Visitors Center there.
(Christian especially enjoyed it....
A very cute Sister Itri gave us a tour of the Visitors Center.  After the tour, we talked to her for a few minutes and as Christian and Sister Itri talked, they discovered they had some friends in common. Christian was also excited to find this was Sister Itri's last transfer.  Now, fast forward several weeks.....
Christian sent Sister Itri a facebook message when she got home from her mission.  He asked her out on a date, and they have been spending lots of time together.  I am so bummed I didn't get a picture of our cute tour guide!)

One of my favorite parts of the Winter Quarters Visitors Center were the sculptures in the basement.

We spent the night in Winter Quarters, Iowa and went to Quaker Steak where Christian attempted to break his record of eating 25 wings. Due to the waiter being so slow at bringing the wings out, Christian put up a valiant effort and ate 22 wings.

Wednesday, June 8th we set off for Des Moines.  We checked into our hotel, grabbed, then headed to the track for the Men's Polevault.

In the middle of the competition a downpour opened up.  It didn't last very long, but it made the rest of the day even more humid.

Chris took 3rd!!!!

Celebration dinner afterward

Thursday, June 9th was my birthday!!!
Chris stayed in Des Moines with his parents while I drove to Nauvoo with my mom, dad, and Christian.
It poured in Nauvoo also.

We saw Sister missionaries that Christian taught in the MTC

Nauvoo's restaurant selection is very limited.  We were wet and starving and this was our best choice:

The pizza was comparable to Little Caeser's, nothing great.  But being that hungry, it tasted wonderful.
Plus, we had the perfect picnic spot.

It stopped raining long enough for us to enjoy the evening concert put on by the Senior missionaries.

Friday, June 10th we woke up early and did sealings in the Nauvoo temple.  We had planned on doing our family names.  Unfortunately, I had left the envelope in our hotel in Des Moines.
Despite my mistake, we still had an incredible experience.  The Nauvoo temple is  breathtakingly beautiful!  I have another favorite temple to add to my list.

Friday afternoon we drove back to Des Moines to catch some more of the track meet.  Rained again..and paused for a while because of a lightening delay.
We went and hid out in a building on campus until they let us back out onto the track.

Saturday we went to the meet again in the morning and it was beautiful and sunny.  Watched the men's triple jump and finals in the 4x400m.

Chris and I said good-bye again as we headed off and drove all the way to Cheyenne, WY that night.
Woke up the next morning and drove the rest of the way to Provo.
